The CAT1023 is a complete memory and supervisory solution for microcontroller-based systems. EEPROM serial 2-Kb CPU supervisor and system power supervisor with brown-out protection, integrated in a low-power CMOS process. The memory interface is implemented via a 400 kHz I²C bus. The CAT1023 provides accurate VCC sensing circuitry and two open-drain outputs: one (RESET) drives high and one (RESET) drives low when VCC drops below the reset threshold voltage. If WP is tied logic high, write operations are disabled. The supervisor has a 1.6-second watchdog timer circuit that resets the system to a known state if a software or hardware failure halts or "hangs" the system. The CAT1023 has a single watchdog timer interrupt input pin, WDI. The power monitoring circuit protects the memory and system controller and resets them during power-on/off and for brown-out conditions. Five reset threshold voltages support 5.0 V, 3.3 V, and 3.0 V systems. If the supply voltage is out of tolerance, the reset signal becomes asserted, preventing the system microcontroller, ASIC or peripherals from operating. The reset signal goes inactive typically 200 ms after the supply voltage exceeds the reset threshold level. Interfacing microcontrollers and other integrated circuits with active high and low reset signals is simple. Alternatively, a reset pin or a separate input MR can be used as an input for push button manual reset capability. The on-chip 2-Kb EEPROM memory has 16-byte pages. Additionally, hardware data protection is provided by a VCC sensing circuit that blocks writes to memory until VCC drops below the reset threshold or until VCC has not reached the reset threshold during power-up. Available in 8-pin DIP, 8-pin SOIC, 8-pin TSSOP, 8-pin TDFN, and 8-pin MSOP. The thickness of the TDFN package is up to 0.8mm.
