The CAT5133 is a high voltage digital potentiometer (POT) integrated with EEPROM memory and control logic, operating like a mechanical potentiometer. The digital POT consists of a series of resistive elements connected between two externally accessible endpoints. The tap point between each resistive element is connected to the wiper output through a CMOS switch. The 7-bit Wiper Control Register (WCR) independently controls the wiper tap switches of the potentiometers. Associated with the control register is a 7-bit non-volatile memory data register (DR) used to store the wiper settings. Changing the value of the wiper control register or storing the value in non-volatile memory is performed through a 3-input increment-decrement interface. The CAT5133 has two supply voltage inputs: VCC (digital supply voltage) input and V+ (analog bias supply) input. Separate digital and analog inputs are provided allowing the potentiometer terminals to be 10V above VCC and 16V above ground. The CAT5133 can be used as a potentiometer or a two-terminal variable resistor. It is suitable for circuit level or system level adjustment in various applications. At power-up, the contents of the non-volatile data register (DR) are transferred to the wiper control register (WCR), where the wiper is positioned. The CAT5133 has a DR programmed to location 64.
